Lagos based fashion label of House of Ekii Designs, run by Abasiekeme Ukanireh- a fashion enthusiast has unveiled fresh new designs to the delight of fashion buffs and enthusiasts alike.
Ukanireh, who spoke to Naija Blog Gist (NBG) on the sidelines of the networking event hosted for fashion designers by the United States Consulate General in Lagos, stated that being aware of the negative impact fashion industry has on the environment, as a sustainable fashion brand, she has decided to take a reverse approach to environmental sustainability.
According to her, this has led her into the introduction of raffia and plantain fibres into her clothing designs.
The fashion designer is also one of the 20 lucky emerging and mid-career Nigerian fashion designers who recently participated in the prestigious U.S. State Department’s International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP).
About Abasiekeme Ukanireh:
She holds a B-Tech. in Environmental Technology from FUTO; and a certificate in circular fashion from Wagenegen University and Research, Netherlands; alumna of the United States Consulate Exchange program -Academy for Women Entrepreneurs(AWE), IVLP Alumna 2021.
In 2017, she founded House of Ekii Designs Ltd, a company that started as a bespoke fashion house and slowly moved to a premium eccentric but ethical fashion house that creates clothing with heritage, traditions and craftsmanship as her backbone and leaves very minimal carbon footprint in the environment.
In May 2020, House of Ekii got nominated for Highlight a Hero by EbonyLife Tv due to its contributions to the donation of face masks to health workers in Port Harcourt.
In November 2020, House of Ekii partnered with major media organizations and top consumer brands and organized her first runway show.
July 2021, House of Ekii partnered with EnonyLife place, Lagos State Gov, Dala drink and The Nike Art Gallery to host a 2021 Eko Tourism and Culture Series.
