Colombian singer Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll known mononymously as Shakira has been forced to pay another £5.7million to a Spanish court investigating her for unpaid taxes.

The £5.7 million deposit covers the £5.3 million prosecutors claim she evaded plus an interest payment and it comes days after she agreed to pay a £6.4million fine in a separate case.

Recall that Spanish authorities confirmed in July Shakira was being probed over suspected 2018 tax breaches.

A spokesman for Catalonia’s High Court of Justice said at the time: ‘Court of Instruction Number 2 in Esplugues de Llobregat has opened a procedure following a complaint presented by prosecutors against the singer Shakira for two suspected tax crimes related to income tax and wealth tax for the Spanish tax year of 2018.’

This comes after Pau Molins, the legal counsel representing Shakira explained why his client would have been better off dating Sergio Ramos instead of Gerard Pique.

The lawyer stated that the 11-year-old relationship the mother of two had with retired Barcelona FC footballer Gerard Pique led to her facing six tax fraud charges instead of three.

Molina, who made the comments after finalising a plea deal on Monday, November 20, blamed her former husband for her tax woes saying she would have saved £100million by dating his rival, Sergio Ramos instead.

According to Molins who claimed Spain’s tax laws are not fair to everyone, residents in Madrid where Ramos played for Real Madrid do not pay wealth tax unlike those living in Catalonia, where Shakira lived with Pique.
