Singer Rema talks up his impact on the Afrobeat genre of music

Talented Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor popularly known in music circles as Rema has confidently talked up his impact on the Afrobeat genre of music.

The ‘Calm Down’ crooner who asserted the impact of his craft in a recent interview said that if he were to retire from music his works have already guaranteed his induction into the Afrobeats Hall of Fame.

“I’m not saying I want to stop. But if I say I want to stop right now, my name is still going to be on the Afrobeats bible, if there is an Afrobeats bible to be dropped. I’ll literally be in the New Testament, on the front page,” Rema said.

The musician who performed at the 2023 Ballon D’Or, which saw global talent Messi win his 8th award also said that he never thought his success would come this fast, from being ridiculed for his Bollywood-influenced soundtrack when he gained prominence in 2019 to performing on international stages.

“Everything they doubted, everything they laughed at me for, I built on it. They called me Indian Boy; I went to India. I’m the first artist to shut down four cities in India, 5000 capacity and above. No one can deny that I’ve impacted Afrobeats on a global scale,” he added.
