Embattled South African athlete Oscar Pistorius could be set for parole this Friday after spending nearly a decade in prison for fatally shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The disgraced Pistorius who has been in prison since late 2014 will have a second chance at parole in two days time after he was wrongly ruled ineligible for early release from prison in March.

This comes after South Africa’s department of corrections in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday informed that a parole board will consider Oscar’s case again this week and decide “whether the inmate is suitable or not for social integration.”

The athlete who was found guilty of murdering his model girlfriend, Reeva, on Valentine’s Day 2013, claimed he thought she was an intruder when she entered his house and her fatal shooting moments later was a tragic mistake.

The 36-year-old was thereafter convicted of manslaughter, and the verdict was later upgraded to murder, with a sentence of 13 years and five months.

However, Pistorius has since made bids for parole, which have been rejected.
