Six-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi has agreed a two-year deal with French football giants Paris Saint Germaine (PSG) and has reportedly arrived Paris for a medical ahead of his unveiling.

And if the mercurial Argentine midfielder passes the medical without a hitch, he will sign a two-year contract with PSG, which has the option of a further 12 months, if the club is satisfied with his services.

Reports say Messi is expected to pocket the sum of €30 million-35 million (£25m-30m/$35m-$41m) per season during his time at PSG, while there will also be team and individual bonuses.

This came days after the free-scoring former Barcelona FC forward confirmed his exit from the Spanish football giants after an illustrious career spanning 21-years.

A tearful Messi who addressed a press conference on Sunday expressed his sadness after being forced to cut short his time with Barcelona due to a breakdown in contract talks.

Barcelona FC had confirmed on Friday that they have been unable to tie Lionel Messi down to a new deal due to “financial and structural obstacles” due largely by COVID-19 pandemic.

The club couldn’t re-sign the 34-year-old footballer who became a free agent upon the expiration of his contract at Barca in June without exceeding La Liga’s wage limit.
