Man City player Benjamin Mendy to remain in custody until next year over rape, s3x assault charges

Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, will remain in custody until next year before his court trial over four rape and one sex assault charges against three women leveled against him.

The French soccer star was accused of allegedly sexually assaulting three women by the Cheshire Constabulary last month. According to reports, the incident involving the player and the women who were above the age of 16 occurred between October 2020 and August 2021.

During the 45-minute hearing at Chester Crown Court, where a date of January 24 2022 was set for his trial, Mendy who spoke only to confirm his name is being accused of four counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

The 27-year-old listened to proceedings translated to him via a French interpreter that sat behind him in the dock.

The charges were not put to him and no pleas were entered during the hearing, which dealt largely with administrative matters ahead of the trial.

According to reports from Mirror football on Friday, September 10th, 2021, the talented defender will have his trial on 24 January 2022, which is expected to last for two and a half weeks.

He is expected to remain in custody till the end of his trial. No pleas were allowed, but a further plea trial will happen on November 15, 2021.
