Popular Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has suffered a monumental loss ahead of his $50 million defamation lawsuit against his estranged ex-wife Amber Heard.

In an unfortunate twist for the actor, Virginia Judge Penney Azcarate ruled on March 24 that Heard, 35, could argue for immunity in front of the jury, reports The Guardian.

Johnny Depp is currently seeking $50m in damages against Heard in a defamation lawsuit that is due to begin next month, challenging his ex-wife’s $100m countersuit.

The 58-year-old was seeking to block Heard from using the state’s anti-Slapp statute (Strategic Lawsuit against Public Participation), which means people can argue against nuisance lawsuits when discussing matters of public interest.

This came days after notable names were listed as witnesses in the defamation trial involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s ongoing legal battle.

TMZ reported that James Franco, Elon Musk and Ellen Barkin have been listed as witnesses in the defamation trial which is slated to begin next month in Virginia, USA.
