Court remands Osinachi’s husband in Kuje prison pending trial

Late Gospel singer Osinachi’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu has been remanded in Kuje correctional centre by the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Wuse, Abuja.

Nwachukwu who was arraigned by the Federal government on Friday will be in prison pending the hearing and determination of the homicide-related suit instituted against him by the Attorney General of the Federation.

He is facing 23-count charges bordering on culpable homicide, verbal, physical abuse and wrongful confinement, wrongful restraint, economic abuse, forced isolation, emotional and psychological abuse and attempt to commit culpable homicide, among others.

The presiding judge, Justice N.K. Nwosu-Iheme ordered that the suspect who pleaded not guilty be remanded at the correctional facility while the trial was adjourned to June 16 and June 17.

Recall that the 42-year-old gospel singer died on April 8, after spending days at a hospital as a result of domestic violence meted on her by her husband.

Following the incident, Nwachukwu was arrested by the police and he has since been in detention.

Nwachukwu was charged under sections 104 and 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the Penal Code which is punishable with death.
