The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reduced the doping ban imposed on the Captain of Enyimba International Football Club Austin Oladapo from one year to six months.

Two months ago, CAF in a statement, said that Oladapo tested positive for the banned substance “Prednisolone/Prednisone” found in his urine sample which was obtained after Enyimba’s May 16 CAF Confederations Cup tie against the Pyramids FC of Egypt.

Prednisone is considered a steroid and it serves as an anti-inflammation and immunosuppressant medication. It is used in the treatment of allergic disorders, skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, or breathing disorders.

CAF indicated that the ban will be in effect from July 4, 2021, which is the official date of notification of the provisional suspension from the continental body.

In his defence, Oladapo maintained that any trace of the substances found in his blood sample would have been from anti-Covid19 medications he was taking at the time.

Also his club, Enyimba, in testimony maintained the same stance, arguing that their captain would not purposely take a banned substance and had no prior doping record.

After the hearing on Wednesday, September 22, a statement from the CAF Appeals Committee read; “The Board has decided to reduce the sanction of player Oladapo Augustine from one year to six (6) months. Therefore the player Oladapo Augustine is suspended from taking part in any football related activities until 4th January 2022.”
