ALLEGED CYBERCRIME: Absence of forensic analyst stalls Naira Marley’s trial

The alleged fraud case before a Federal High Court in Lagos involving popular Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley stalled on Tuesday, November, 2021, due to the absence of a prosecution witness, Augustine Anosike.

The prosecution witness, Augustine Anosike a forensic analyst, is testifying as a second prosecution witness in the case brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission which is prosecuting the defendant on charges bordering on cybercrime.

During the last court session held on October 27, 2021, Anosike revealed how about 2,410 short messages were analysed from the iPhone of the defendant while also stating that different credit card numbers were extracted from the iPhone.

According to the witness, the Apple iPhone is a sophisticated device capable of storing a large volume of information, adding that it is the sim card that basically identifies users of applications such as WhatsApp.

The witness said 977 Short Message Service (SMS) and 1,433 chat messages were discovered in the witness’ iPhone while adding that there were also seven pending status update messages.

Anosike revealed how about 2,410 short messages were analysed from the iPhone of the defendant while also stating that different credit card numbers were extracted from the iPhone.

After his testimony, the prosecutor informed the court that all the analysed messages were contained in a Compact Disc (CD) but that the prosecution had only printed out those portions which were material to its case.
