9ice credits Fela for giving Nigerian artistes a platform to prosper through Afrobeats

Nigerian Afro-Fuji musician, songwriter and dancer, 9ice has stated that the late Fela Anikulapo-kuti has given Nigerian artistes Afrobeat as a platform for them to prosper today.

The singer who made the comments in an interview with Sis Project Studios said that Fela who is the pioneer of Afrobeat launched a music genre that has made Nigerian artistes thrive easily.

According to 9ice, the late Afrobeats legend has made the music genre attractive especially for musical artistes searching for new possibilities to showcase their musical creativity.

He also gratefully added that he has learnt a lot from Afrobeats legends like Fela which he has followed.

9ice said; “Fela Anikulapo-Kuti gave us the platform which is Afrobeat for us to climb on top. We were trying to do Afropop. We were trying to do afrobeats. We were trying to do different names. But Baba [Fela] already has something that the world recognizes.

“Afrobeat taught me a lot. King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti are our grandfathers. And I’m glad to be in existence to emulate or to follow what they’ve done.”
