US court confirms sentencing date of alleged internet fraudster Hushpuppi

A court in the US has confirmed the sentencing date of alleged Nigerian internet fraudster and Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas popularly known by many as Hushpuppi.

The sentencing date which is set for the 12th of September was confirmed by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Los Angeles.

Thom Mrozek, the court’s Director of Media Relations made this known on Friday, August 26, in response to an email inquiry by Channels Television.

When he was asked exactly when Hushpuppi would be sentenced by the court, Mrozek said the suspect had long pleaded guilty last year and would be sentenced later this year.

“Mr. Abbas is currently scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in Los Angeles on September 21,” he said.

Recall that Hushpuppi was previously scheduled to be sentenced on February 14 for defrauding people across different continents to the tune of millions of dollars.

An offence to which he pleaded guilty to sometime last year whilst seeking a lighter sentence.

Hushuppi stands at risk of getting a 20 years jail sentence; a 3-year period of supervised release; a fine of $500,000 or twice the gross gain or gross loss resulting from the offence.
